Default Interior updates: Aluminium to Wood and replaced headliner with black alcantara

Had my new XJR a few weeks now, and first couple of items on my todo list checked off - swapping over the aluminium to wood and replacing the sagging headliner.

Here's the before pictures:

Ordered new wood trim off eBay and fitted that myself - turned out to be a pretty simple job in the end.

Had the headliner replaced professionally at The Toy Shop in Mt Eden (https://www.thetoyshop.co.nz/), would absolutely recommend anyone in Auckland with a Jag heading there - they swapped out the existing sagging headliner with alcantara, swapped the colour from the standard beige to a very dark grey. Of course this meant they also had to remove and repaint all the interior plastics, re-cover all the pillars to match the new headliner, and even re-stitch the sun visors in the new fabric. Looks absolutely amazing in person, the pictures don't do it justice!

Very happy!

ps. while it was there they also fixed the poorly fitting aribag cover trim piece after my DIY effort!

Do you mind giving me the headliner price. PM me if you don't want to say publicly.

Didn't ask them to break the price down but all up they quoted 2,200 +GST for the headliner, pillars, sun visors and repainting all the plastic trim. They then spent a bit more time on fixing up the airbag trim for me.

I had some cheaper quotes starting as low as 600 +GST at a few places for just the headliner replacement at generic car trim places, but this is really next level and they knew all the ins and outs of the car

$NZ to anyone else. And I see they did much more than the headliner.
See you on the motorway...oh...XJR...

Richard,
I am so envious of those nice interior improvements . The aluminum looked ok, but that wood is quite beautifully subtle looking . Nicer than the blazing Winnebago style wood my car has. Nice!
And that alcantara is sweet! Some complain that it's not durable, but I want it in my car now. And unlike the factory, I bet your guy used good glue that will keep it up there.

headliner looks amazing....on my wish list for sure! You do get what you pay for in this instance.

Man..I would have totally swapped my pristine wood for your original interior, no cost but shipping. Who knew?

Either Richard or The Toy Shop must have them, and you won't face much competition :-). And it would be your only chance. Non-wood being relatively common on the XK and Very Rare on the XJ.

If you were going to replace Burr Walnut, I'd buy it. Nothing wrong with mine, but I could stick them on my wall or something.
(I just bought some burr walnut sheets to make a trophy mount for a leaper I have, since I cannot bring myself to drill holes in the bonnet. Think Dr Strangelove)
