Default Jag Nav Disk - How often to they update?

My 2005 VDP has a nav disk with a 2003 copyright date.

I note that the "current" navigation disk available at the dealership is 2009/2010.

Do they update these disks every year? If so, at what time of year?

I want to buy a new disk. A lot has changed in 8 years and I would like the software update as well.

I am not in any hurry, I don't rely on it that much. What I don't want to do is buy a new one, only to discover that the 2010/2011 disk comes out next the next day/week/month.

When can we expect the next "new" disk to be released?

Thanks

Did you go through your system screen to look at the version of the map? I found that my map disc says "copyright 2004" but the version is 2006. I assume it is up to date to 2006.

I was going to buy the 2009/2010 when I called NAVTEQ and they told me the newest version 2011 will be coming out in Oct/Nov this year. I decided to wait until then.

The biggest discounter is still Nalley at 15% off. I wonder if we can get a mass quantity discount from them? Anyone wanna take charge of this??

I am afraid to upgrade my disk for fear that it will also lock me out of all the functions! Although I'm pretty much locked out of it anyway whenever I'm not stopped!

Mine is copyright 2003, but it is the 2004 version

I thought I read here that updating would "unlock" the NAV while moving. Did I misunderstand this?

My 05 has the original Nav disc. Supposedly the 2010-2011 disc will arrive in November. Damn expensive for that thing.

Here in the UK we use the Western European disc
The new one (2010-2011) for Western Europe is due for release in the next few weeks in June
Ive updated my 2007 car every year and always run a back up copy to save the original getting damaged.
I think over here it was around 2004 when the firmware and software (both updated on the map disc) allowed postcode (ZIP code in the US??) entry on the move.

No, it is not possible in the US. In 2009, there was a minor firmware update.

I'm not sure if the xj has the same nav system as the xk, but my understanding is that there are no updates available for these systems. If anyone can prove me wrong, I sure would like an updated disc also. My understanding is that the '07 and later is completely different and will not work, and up to '06 used the 2003 version.
Sure hope I'm wrong.

Current version is still 2009-10, but from the above messages hope to see a new one in a month or two. I'd assume that they'd release the 2011-12 toward the end of 2010, so that you wouldn't have this situation of the current version already sounding expired. Like the way the July issue of a magazine always gets published in June.

Not quite. The 2009/10 came out at the end of 2009. It is really dependent on how much data changes. And unfortunately since this car is no longer current, not sure how many more updates they will be making. I also remember they only did nav updates for the Benz every couple of years and they were different versions each time like A, B, C specific to your VIN number.
