Question Jag Wouldn't Start

One of those days when you turn your key to start your Jag, but instead you hear nothing.
So you call your back lane body mechanic for advice, and he told you your starter is gone,
that I need to check fuses and relay, which I did to no avail, they were just fine.

So, I went and bought starter. My body mechanic came to my place to replace it and
I'm telling you, it's not Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, it took an hour to remove and
another 30 to replace it and guess what... it wouldn't start, not even a whisper.

Being around cars for many years, I've decided to use an old trick to jump a screwdriver
directly to the solenoid. The trick was working, the starter was turning, but the car wouldn't
start anyway. So, I just R&R perfectly good starter with $150 piece I'm now need to remove
and to ship back to Rock Auto.

Okay, now I have fully charged battery, good fuse and relay turning starter but no use of key
that would start the car a few hours before. What puzzles me, why engine wouldn't start
while starter was spinning?

The only possibility, anti theft system kicked in.
I'm definitely need some of you guys bight minds to solve that mystic thing.

.
Check to see if you have battery voltage to your positive starter cable.
If not check the fuses in the trunk.
C2C19469 is the number, 450 amp fuse
Sounds as if i spoke without thinking you have current

Been there, done that.
It could be a transponder. Does anyone know good tips how to program it?

The starter was spinning but was the engine spinning?

I have had a similar problem a few years ago when
the starter sounded like it was was spinning free of the engine..
I decided it was the Bendix and started to dismantle it
but had to stop because I needed a curved spanner.
Next day it started no problem.

What is "a curved spanner"?
Actually starter spinning if I put screwdriver to shorten up power to
starter and solenoid, other than that starter is dead.

Are there any DTCs stored in the system?

What is the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position when read with a voltmeter?

12.6 v
I have a new battery, and it's getting charged around the clock.

I'm sure we all have something like that. One day you park your baby
and when you come back in the morning, your baby is telling you
"Not so fast, go back to your bed". This is mine, one of those days

One example of a curved spanner, is an S shaped wrench.
Some have ratcheting box ends, an ideal set up here.

Last thing on my check list would be the starter! Did you try to move the gear shift to neutral and start it there? You may need to move it a little out of position if it has lost calibration. Did you check the bolts on the transmission that hold the shift cable? Did you check the brake switch? Try those for a start if you have not done so already.

That was on my checklist too. At this point, I'm more and more
inclined to believe my problem is security. BTW, is anyone can
point me to 2004 Jaguar XJR security light location?

Security won't let it crank. And fuel is cut off so you should not smell fuel at exhaust..

It is the one in the centre of the dash that you can see flashing , from the front of the car, when the car is locked. It will flash a two digit code if there is anything wrong.

Right, that is where I should have remembered to look for in a first place.

Okay. Call locksmith to program my keys. If you think I finally start my Jaguar...
not so fast, I didn't. The security light would come off, but it wouldn't start. Period.

I came to the bottom of the to-do list, so, what now? Paper clip to jump start the car?

Talking about paper clip. Where starter relay is located?
Some fuse box with an arrow pointing to relay would be helpful.

I would assume that starter relay location would be easy question to answer,
but it seems to me, having all answers highly knowable group of Forum's
members can't come up with one which would be easiest to answer.

The only related to starter subject is, starter solenoid fuse located in engine's
fuse box, but Google point to fuse box in trunk manual doesn't point which
relay is starter. At this point, I start to doubt that relay is existing.

I have only come across a starter, without the relay built in, on one car and that is my 1923 Dodge Brother touring. It is like the new cars with a starter/generator that is permanently coupled and driven by the engine. As far as I know our cars are like all the others with the relay on the starter.

Yes, I have every manual there is.
Please point me to page, post picture or do something that would help me
to find answers to my query.
