Default Jaguar NAV disks

Hi All...
I'm not sure if there is a list out there for the NAV disks but as my 04 XJR needs an upgrade. Figured I'd start a FAQ list as I search for a used one. A 2013 release may be soon. If anyone can add or correct information that would be awesome.

I also have a question in regard to making a jump from BC to BJ or BK. I gather it's plug and play and no need for a "firmware" from an older disk?

Nah, don't worry about that, at least you HAVE a pic in your signature. I have practiced photography as my hobby for 10 years now, its a combination if art (my weakest part) and technology/science (this i know!). If you ever find someone who dabbles in the same, recruit them for a little photoshoot. Its a compliment to be asked to take a picture of oneself, or one's car even more. P

I have a 2008 VDP where I have upgraded the Navigation CD to the 2011-2012 update. The Navigation CD that came origional with the car was a 2008 version. Question is will I ever need the 2008 version, will the system ever ask for it for any reason.

So a 6W83 disk will not work in a 2004 XJ8? Or are they backwards-compatible?

I fitted a 2012 disk in my 2005 XJ and it worked fine, updated the app as well as the data. I don't know the part no, it covers (at least) UK and western Europe, I have an idea it does Eastern Europe too.

Default Droid Vs. Onboard Nav

I upgraded my disk & use it seldom. Reason: My Android cellphone with Google Maps is better. The Seattle area is inundated with shovel-ready highway construction projects and the highways seem to change on a frequent basis. Google Maps updates frequently.

Also, as you type the destination, the Droid gives a drop-down list & all you have to do is make a selection... vs. the rigid and limited selection process with the onboard system.

I found my Iphone 5 sat horizontally in the ashtray works great as a Nav device.
Give SIRI the address and whoosh off you go, I can sharge the phone at the same time too.
I use the onboard system as a backup because it is slow, not user friendly and not been updated since 2002 it appears.

It would be nice to try an updated DVD though..

Already sold, when I asked the question back in Nov. 2012, I found that the Nav unit will never request the previous version disk and a member reached out and bought my 2008 disk as their car did not have a disk.

Hello & thanks to all for the many bits of info, which have allowed me fix my own car - and there by own one! I am a pauper, for certain.

I write to contribute, in appreciation!

The 2-disc set listed above is for an XF, 2007 & later, right? Well, I found this on eBay. It was the same price as the least expensive individual Jaguar discs for any model $40 w/ship. As you know, I cannot afford such luxury. But, I bought them - someone stole my other disc. I only had a copy that came with the car.

There WAS a huge problem though! I OWN A 2005 VANDEN PLAS! LOL Any nav dvd for the $ Vanden Plas was at least $159! Can't do that! So, I figured that, if my experament did not work, I could resell the set for more than I paid - and I'd that much closer to the big $ cha-ching necesary for a VDP set, right?

Well, I got the DVD set, put both discs in the trunk multi-disc player, got in, started up my Vanden Plas, pushed the NAV button, agreed on screen, put in a destination; and, away I went - fully functional navigation system! NO SPECIAL REBOOT, NOR INSTALL PROCEEDURE!

Now, there is on strange thing that I did while missing my Jaguar navigation disc. About a week before, I was messing with the navigation panel - tapping buttons - I could not get the panel to the map display screen. Somehow I got to an update place and tapped some update button. The navigation system went through an update proceedure with no disc or a music disc in the rear deck - can't remember; I tried both! LOL This particular time I succeded in getting to the map screen and entered a destination. No map appeared; but I was in the right place, as if endlessly waiting for a map to pop up any moment.

So, when I got my 2008-09 disc set - which has 2008 not 2009 fyi on it -. I put it in as per above, and it is working! Any relevance? No clue... but it works! LOL

I will be post to other areas on the forum, regarding parts compatability with this same 2005 Vanden Plas.

I have discovered that X-type - and even S-type- parts are often far less expensive parts that FIT EXACTLY - particularly suspension parts. I paid $200 for a right front upper control arm, when I could not find a ball joint - dealer bj is more. I have to do one side corner at a time - too keep it running. Then, when I had the cash for the left front, there were none that cheap for a VDP!

Jaguar part numbers for the x-type and VDP are different; so, I contacted an eBay .com seller who had 2 upper control arms for x-type at $130. Individual x-type arms were selling for $149+/- - cheaper than VDP part - $485-$885 , at that time! I kept emailing the seller, asking if they could check if x-type and VDP upper arms are a match - hoping they have both to compare. After several pleas, he came back with a yes!

Otherwise, I would have bit the bullet, and bought them - in order to compare to my old right side part & resold if no match. If you get a seller to state that they match, you can return for a FULL refund - regardless of return policy. But these guys said they match!

I have not installed the left one yet - maybe today or tomorrow. But, it matches the old one I have! I have to do it outside. It will be 35 F plus the next 2 days. The day after I bought the pair, individual x-type parts posted for as little as $45 each - for the complete upper control arm!

I guess I posted it here. Ooopps, sorry. I'll try to paste it in the right place asap. I'm have rough time re-finding some things anyway. At least it is here, and available?

Transmission parts and atf fluid: I got Ford Mercon SP $7/qt - supposed to be a Jaguar specification match, and a match to the Redline and other D4, and same Shell ¿M1745.4? spec products. Jaguar uses mineral oils; or, so I read. $20 (oil change price) to get a small shop to lift my VDP, check the fluid level, tighten the bolts to stop the leaking, and help me pump my Bars Transmission repair fluid and 2.5 qts of Ford atf in. It is still in limp home mode though. From the cold?

It will get below zero farenheit here for the next 3 months though... so... The Bars fluid is supposed to work within 100 miles. We'll see. I did not change the pan, filter and gasket bere. I wanted to see if this works first. Not yet...

I bought this 2005 VDP, and drove it from Florida last March. Potholes blew the whole struggling suspenson in the freezing hills in west South Carolina or Tennesee, and tranny went limp home in Daytona Beach a couple of days before.

*I made it back like that! LOL inch by tension breaking inch - 1200-1400 miles? OMG LOL I did the ignition on off reset thing - sometimes every exit! I swear, that I would NEVER make it! I prayed to Jewish Yeshua (not Roman jesus) Messiah the whole way - would have anyway. No offense! LOL Facts are the facts...

Then I drove it until it warmed up in May/June, and the transmission quit going slip limp scary! Come fall here with 32 F, and it's doing it again.

I'll do a full service next. Curious about the TCM flashing bit etc?

As recommended on another transmission post, you do not need to grind a Hex bit nor hex wrench to gain access to the transmission filler plug. A regular H8 hex L shaped wrench, from a ring of them, fit past the pipe. A deep socket on a 2 or 3 foot extension served in place of a heavy pipe, to break it loose - no troubles.

The same x-type pan, filter & gasket set were $50, when the VDP set was $149 or much much more even - did not need to buy ZF bolts, but did. Didn't need the filler plug, but did - to find that the gasket is not rubber nor fused. It looks like tbe BMW, Rolls, some VWs, Lincolns and others have the same 6 or other speed same transmission. But the whole ZF filler plug w/gasket was less than the BMW gasket - at the time. That is, for when there are no Jaguar parts - the x-type is same too...at least in some. ?

The front air strut by Arnott $430-450 + core - only one available was on Amazon.com - was not compatible according to the Amazon verification check. Arnott and the seller verified that the Arnott AS-2395 is a match - comfort strut. it fit and works. Now the left front is leaking, and maybe the rear. I want the whole front done first though. I got new front tie rod ends for $25-35 each - not $450! or whatever...

Does this 2005 VDP have a DCCV? I'll flush it, but the right heat doesn't blow. Looking for heater core.

Replaced headlight $5 and fog light bulbs $7 NAPAonline.com. Need to get into front upper amber bulb replacement? Lost a bulb spring, a piece of wood was stuffed in to hold the other housing cover on...

and the front radiator plastic cover over the whole mess under the hood had DZUS quarter turn clips that I ripped out - still don't know how to work those nor where to get something to replace them! ??? Help? I read that they prevent vandalism. ?

No idea how to get the breather pipe from the tbermostat housing assembly off the car to replace it? Got the rest of the leaking housings on though.

Found paint to match - spray can, pen or different size cans - on Amazon, finally. About $55 w/clear coat - w/4'x4' coverage spray can claim.

Gotta go fix my car, it's 41F - but nit for long!

Thank you

Quote: "Well, I got the DVD set, put both discs in the trunk multi-disc player, got in, started up my Vanden Plas, pushed the NAV button, agreed on screen, put in a destination; and, away I went - fully functional navigation system! NO SPECIAL REBOOT, NOR INSTALL PROCEEDURE!".

Since the multi disc player is in no way connected to the NAV GPS system I do not understand how this is possible?

Quite apart from the maps being (more) up to date, do these newer disks make the Jag GPS work any better?

The Jag GPS in my '07 XJR is pretty stone axe, compared to a $75 Garmin. Assume I have the original nav disk
