Default Jaguar Platinum Warranty

The 2005 XJ8-L that I am looking at has a 7 year Jaguar Platinum warranty which expires the end of September this year. The time runs out long before the mileage is reached. Is anyone aware if an extension to the Jag warranty is available?

It appears the Platinum warranty requires all work to be done at a Jag dealership. I have a very good independent mechanic locally, and the nearest Jag dealer is 4 hours away, so I'd prefer a warranty which allows my mechanic to do the work. Anyone have any suggestions? If it makes any difference, I'm in Canada

Thanks again for any and all pointers

Is the Platinum warranty transferable ? If it is you will probably find the cost of an extension beyond September is unacceptable. Jaguar charges an awful lot for its warranties.

It is likely that the warranty demands the servicing be to Jaguar schedules, but surely not at main dealers !! If this is the case, how do Jaguar sell any cars in the vast expanse of Canada, there can't be all that many dealers ? I suspect any warranty work has to be done at a place pre-approved by Jaguar, and proof of servicing will be required, but check out the details of the warranties on the Jaguar website, they are published there.

There are plenty of companies that offer insurance-type warranties for varying amounts, the level of cover and warranty experience with the cars being what decides it. Usually cars over 100k are difficult to get warranties on, or over a certain age, but a 2004 should be OK, my car is a 2003 and has some warranty albeit fairly limited - mechanical only not bodywork, and a fairly low claims limit. I take the gamble on the rest, and just hope it pays off.

Thanks. I wasn't clear - I meant that with the Platinum coverage, all warranty work needed to be performed at the Jag dealership.

In the US, there are multiple aftermarket warranty contractors. I would assume that CN has similar or could access the US market for such. Depending upon mileage, model year, and desired deductible, it might be worth a look. It allows dealer and non-dealer repairs. Google After Market car warranties to find availability in your area. Good luck.
