Hey guys. Just got my 2005 XJ VDP and so far so good. I paid 20 grand plus 2600 for an extended warranty for 50,000 miles. It had 49,000 miles on it when I got it. Rear entertainment is great not for movies but because I have an aux input which allows me to hook up my iPhone. I have seen many compare the 7.45 to XJ but realistically they are totally different. They are both great cars. The only reason I sold the BMW is because I was up to 130,000 miles and I was nervous every morning when I started the car. Maintenance had not been great with the BMW. I paid $750 once to replace the battery which was not a good experience. I am hoping that things will be cheaper to fix with the Jag. That was one of the reasons I got the extended warranty. I do about 50000 miles a year so I will post my experiences periodically. I think I will try to get it up to 200,000 but we will see.

The $700 battery certainly points out that Jaguar owners might not be so hard done by after all.
The only difference is the greater abundance of choices in aftermarket sources for Mercedes and BMW owners. That is a function of the number of vehicles on the road.

a few years ago my wife and I did a 700 mile road trip. To pass the time we did a car spotting count with BMW, MB, and Jags. We saw 98 BMWs, 96 MBs, and only 8 Jags. That is one of the nice things about driving these babies, you don't pass yourself all the time on the road.
Enjoy your new Jag!

I, too, had a BMW (740iL) before I bought my '04 XJ8. I sold the Bimmer at 145K miles, and now my Jag has 174K miles. Like you said, both are great but different cars. While no wishing to cause a s*** storm on the forum, I feel the Bimmer is better engineered, but the Jag is still a very fine car.
FYI-I'm targeting 200K miles before I move on.

No major issues, but I've had most of the more typical issues: air suspension failure (new pump req'd.), coolant tank leaking (new tank req'd.), etc. At present, the only pending issue is various creaks and groans from front suspension...noticeable primarily at slow speeds. Probably need new lower control arm bushings, etc., etc.
Otherwise, all major systems still work like new. Remarkable.
