Key does not unlock driver's door
Hi, looking for a little advice on an issue with the new to me 2004 XJ8.
The key will not unlock the driver's door. It starts the car, it unlocks and locks the trunk and it locks the driver's door (don't they all though - any X350 key will lock any X350, just will not unlock?).
The action in the lock feels unusual, different. When locking there is the expected resistance when the key is turned and then the door(s) lock. There is no resistance when going anticlockwise to unlock, like there is nothing there for the key to push inside the lock.
I wonder if the car was stolen at some time in it's life, and the lock was forced?
Suggestions as to what will be the cheapest remedy? I presume a new lock from Jaguar will be expensive, if available, and second hand locks would mean doing the trunk and ignition at the same time to avoid having two separate keys?
Is the lock likely to be user serviceable? Can I take it out, dismantle it, and replace parts and get it to work with the original key?
I tried lithium spray, hoping to free up stuck tumblers or whatever is in there with no luck.
Next suggestion, please?
