Default Key not working!!!

My transponder key is not working. The buttons to unlock and lock the door has suddenly stopped working. Took it to the dealer to change the the battery and no luck. The technician said he has to reprogram the key at a cost of $75. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a fair price? Also I can't get into my trunk or glove box because my sister hit the valet button.

Be thankful you didn't loose the bugger>
I always thought a key re-prog should be a courtesy thing for owners,$75.00 seems a lot but hey I guess it's in line with the $675.00 brake master cyl I just bought.
I seem to recall that a new key a prog is in the $400.00 range.

I think if you search the threads you can find a post detailing the magic incantations that should allow you to reprogram the key yourself. You may also want to check if any of the buttons work as I had only one button stop working due to wear. I have been able to revive it somewhat by dismantling and cleaning with electrical contact cleaner. Good luck...
