Key remote issue... Help?!

My vehicle is a a 2004 xj8. Remote is original so I thought when it stopped locking/unlocking the doors it was a battery issue. In the weeks before it stopped working I did notice that it took a couple of 'hits' and 'angled' pressures to make it work. Bit then I realized the trunk button still worked. And the light button. So I can't lock/unlock the doors but can mess with the lights and work the trunk. Before I drive into the dealership....what's up?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi Independent Jaguar shop owner and mechanic here.
This is common for these key remotes. Opening up the key fob and doing some cleaning may bring this back to life. The rubber button pad needs to be cleaned completely. I dont recommend placing any type of solution on the rubber pad because you dont want it to soften in any way just clean it thoroughly dry with a towel/cloth. The buttons on the actual circuit board become gummed up. With the remote apart and circuit board accessible try pressing down the small metal buttons on the circuit board directly. They should go down freely and pop right back up if not they are gummed up/frozen. I have had success freeing up theses buttons using penetrating lubricant spray with lots of direct presses while lubricating. If this does not work you will need a new key remote.
