Largest overall diameter tyre on an XJ without rubbing
In about two weeks i'll be a new owner of a long lusted after silver super V8. I also might get a good deal on 20" Sepang wheels. I live in Bulgaria, and the road conditions here on the back roads are less than perfect. My plan is to put taller tyres on 20s, but i found a thread, stating that an overal wheel diameter larger than about 27.5" would rub the wings on some occasions, like tight turning backing up from a parking space and/or jumping off a kerb.
Any opinion on the largest overall diameter tyre I can go?

Hi there,
I had those concerns, because I also have 20" sepangs. A member here has put 1" taller tires, and it's all ok. So that would translate 255/40 instead of 255/35.
Lucky you, that you live in Bulgaria! We're neighbours, I live in Romania, and I have to pay 2800 Euros per year just to own it, not counting fuel and repairs...

Hi Matei,
Glad to have a competent Jaguar owner in proximity Are you in Bucharest? I am just 180 km away from it in the beautiful town of Veliko Tarnovo, we might drink a cofee together one day on either side of the border.
Yes, it's cheaper to run a car here, the insurance+tax would be about 1300 eur/year.

That's a lovely idea, however I'm at the other end of the country, near the Hungarian border. But I'll be sure to let you know when I have business in the Sout-East, by then you will have gotten your Jag There are 2 types of Super V8s, long and short wheelbase, which are you planning to buy?

I tried the 255/40R20 front, 285/35R20 combo. It seemed perfectly fine for about a month, until the car is with one front wheel a lot higher up than the others, like on a kerb, then the opposite rear side squats a lot and the rear wheel is rubbing the lip of the plastic wheel liner. Eventually it cut through it and i had to replace the liner. It turned out there was a bit of rubbing on the inside as well. Then i switched to 255/40R20 at the back and have no problems whatsoever for two months. I tried the tilted position and there is enough clearance with the 255's, even room for 265. 275 might work too.
Regarding my initial question, diameter is a non-issue, but my car sits a bit high, plan to lower it a bit.
