Hi Eric,
The bulbs are monitored by the CAN bus, and the bulb failure detection can sometimes think an LED is a failed bulb. Fitting an in-line resistor can fool the CAN bus. The bigger problem is that the auxiliary rear lights on the XJ are a bit like the front headlights. The old style traditional tail lights have a very basic reflector, and molded red lenses that catch the reflected light. LEDs work great for these lights, and in some of my cars I have fitted them. Of course the main tail and brake lights are already LEDs. The x350 fog, reverse and indicator lights have a computer-designed reflector that relies on the bulb filament being in exactly the right place, so that there is no need for the molded lenses to catch the light. This gives the star-field look to the lights.
I tried LEDs in my reverse, fog and indicator lights and even though they were great LEDs, the light output and the effect from behind the car wasn't as good as the original filament bulbs.
I have LEDs in my front parking or position lights as the color matched the HID headlights much better. I also have LEDs in the high beam (inner) headlights, which are excellent. I am a big fan of LEDs, but they don't seem to be as good in the auxiliary rear lights as the original bulbs.

Thanks for the response, I was going for just changing them all, but hadn't considered the appearance aspect of it. I looking for one and done, just looking at the 50,000 hours expected bulb life. Since I posted, I've researched a bit, and found that they make Can bus LED bulbs that mimic the resistance of an incandescent. They likely do not, I suspect, mimic the focal point. No more frequently than it comes up I'd be willing to stick with the stock setup. I got a bad bulb warning on a rear indicator along with a rapid right turn indicator, which went away before I returned home. I'm taking that as a warning to do some maintenance.

Well, as long as you don't buy "cheap chinese" like from Banggood. I have bought so many interior LED lights which actually have a lifespan of (advertised/1000) or 50hrs. They end up blinking and it's not in time with the music!
I'm picking that the reason LED's are cheap from Banggood, is that they buy the reject "but still working" ones.
Other than that, Banggood is a good company to deal with. "So Long As You're Careful". For example, a bluetooth adapter from them is perfect.
