Left Front Brake noise

Are you turning when it happens (i.e. into a side road and so are slowing and the turning the wheel)? I had this with my 2006 XJR and the dealer found that it was just that the brake callipers had not been greased very well and it would make a groaning or clunking. Easy fix as they took out the pads, cleaned it up and applied a good dose of copper grease and it fixed the problem.
The way to check is find a quite road with no traffic and do about 10mph, then lightly left foot brake and apply pressure on the accelerator to maintain the speed and turn the wheel from left to right and will hear it clunking if it is this issue. Don’t do this for long or you will burn your brakes out but it only takes a couple of seconds to perform the test.

I have a similar problem, that is somewhat related to braking, but is mostly heard when turning and braking, like when I pull into my driveway. At first I thought I had a bad control arm bearing, but I have isolated the problem to... of all things... the hood/bonnet. Push down on the hood around the left side near the windshield and see if you get "the sound". My understanding is that when the hood is closed, there's some contact between a couple pieces of metal and that the small amount of flex in the body when turning or braking is enough to cause the noise. I remember casually reading about this on what I thought was jaguarforums long before I had the issue. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the post yet. I remember the post indicating that the problem was inadvertently found when he was waxing the hood. Ultimately he used some bearing grease to fix the problem.
Of course this may not be the same noise you're experiencing, but worth the 5 seconds it takes to check out.

Ok, I found the thread about the hood problem creating the sound in the left front. Check out this thread, and look at posts 18 and 23.
