mild uneven acceleration on gradual incline
Extremely happy with my 04 XJR that I've had for about a month now! I just crossed the 45K mile mark. The only interesting thing I've noticed so far is that before the car warms up completely, if I get it on the highway and on a long gradual incline I notice the acceleration is a bit uneven - sort of a cyclical lurching that is very very mild and probably not even noticeable for most people. Has anyone else noticed this and is it anything to worry about?

From what I have found from both of our Jags it is that they like to warm up before they drive well. I had to tell my wife with her XK let the car idle below 700 rpm before moving as the car ran very uneven till warm and worse if my wife just switched on an drove off straight away. Jags are not ordinary cars that's why we love them.

YOu have got the familiar "Hunting" syndrome, as have I and a lot of other people on this forum.
If you look at the reve counter you will see it gently hunting away over a couple of hundred revs. It is the torque converter lock-up locking/unlocking and as this is software controlled indicates a TCM reflash, but be advised that Jaguar never really sorted this one out. It should disappear when the tranny fluid has warmed up, it does on mine. Sometimes the torque converter needs replacing, but this is not common.

Ah, that's exactly what it is. Thanks! I'm ok with it, as long as it is not causing any expensive damage to my drivetrain. Like you said, it only happens during that first 5 min's or so of driving until it warms up and then I'm good. It's not really a problem for me, so I'll chalk it up to an idiosyncrasy!
