I am a new owner and not sure when the emergency brake pads need to be replaced on my 2004 XJR. The pads are close to worn out, but not sure how fast they wear since they are not used as often as the regular brake pads.
any replacement tips? preferred brands?
thanks

(Brembo is item 5 in this drawing; Standard is item 4:
If by 'close to worn out' you mean they are almost down to the metal backing, then they need changing fast before there's any damage to the disc.
Brake Pad wear (both main and parking) depends very much on driving conditions and driving style. It's impossible to put an exact mileage interval on change requirement.
I have all the wheels off my cars twice a year to check the brakes for wear and the insides of the tyre walls for damage. Apart from peace of mind, I never get unexpected pad wear or a seized wheelnut!

There's a few threads on replacement pads for the main brakes...not many on the parking one. I recently replaced my pads only, as the discs were in great shape, barely could feel any lip at the outer edge. Pads, however, were next to nothing left!
Its really easy to do, punch out the pins (from front to back), remove that large clip, use a c-clamp to move the pistons back into the caliper, remove the pads, drop new ones in, and pins w/ clip for a finish! Its a great chance to clean those calipers really well too, after all, they do show nicely when clean behind those wheels.![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
BTW, I installed Akebono Euro Ceramic pads, about $175 in parts total.
