Hi Gang,

currently running 235/50R18's

I am looking at a set of 225/50R17 on 17" rims OEM from and S-type.

Would the rims fit and can I swap for a tire that is closure in diameter to the originals?

The correct size is 235/55R17.
You should take XJ OEM rims as the offset of S-Type rims is probably different

 

I'm not sure many S-type owners know whether the wheels fit a VDP or vice versa.

What ever combo you choose, make sure the outer diameter of the tires is the same as the tires your car came with. There's tire selection charts that will provide this info.

i believe the 235/55R17's are the closest fit based on a few calculators Diameter difference within 2%.

The OEM offset for my VDP 18's is 40mm right?

 

Factory offset is 48mm. For best fit 40-48mm with 8.0-8.5 in width will work. My current aftermarket setup is 8.5 in wide at 42mm offset. That is fairly even with the front fenders.
