Missing a height sensor!
I was poking around under the XJR this evening, doing my homework before attempting to lower the car by shimming the height sensors, when I came across a problem.
There is a sensor under the right rear, left rear and left front, but there is no sensor under the right front.
It's simply not there, and by the looks of things, it was never there to begin with...
I'm not kidding, there should be a height sensor there, you can see the notches in the rear lower arm where it would be strapped on, and there are rusted out holes on the subframe where the sensor should be bracketed on.
There are no loose wires visible anywhere. I'm kind of shocked at this....
Begs the question; how can the air suspension be working like this? did someone tap the left front sensor to both front inputs of the ASM? did it leave the factory like this? why wouldn't any of the four different dealers who serviced it in the past notice?
Is it even safe to be driving it ? Bloody hell i hit 150mph on the Autobahn yesterday...
Help! What do I do now?

An embarrasing overreaction on my part.
So now I wonder, will shimming the left front sensor lower the front evenly?
I measured the front (not scientifically, just with a tape measure)
After 3 hours stationary; RF 390mm, LF 395mm
After starting the engine; RF 394mm, LF 396mm
So maybe I have a slight leak in the right front?
In any case, the drive height seems even enough at the front.
I'll let everyone know what comes from a 5mm shim, which should lower the front approx. 1"
Rears i'm looking to shim around 3mm, to lower around a 1/2"
Still doesn't make sense to me, if they wanted to get rid of one sensor, then why not take one from the rear, most all air suspension setups (Benz, for example) use two sensors at the front and one at the rear....

Yeah I might think you would be, but let me ask you this does the JTIS cover 2005? Every version I have seen stops @2003/2004. Somewhere somebody has called the year out that this changed and I do believe it was late 2004 or beging of 2005. Mine has the same set up and refering to the Mitchells and Alldata my configuration is correct for the MY. BTW the JTIS may be 100% that it has a sensor, but it's not used for the reasons stated. Like said it was posted here is the only reason I spouted off.

My Technical Notes for 2003.5 MY, and 2004 MY, XJ models, states that the rear suspension is adjusted individually left and right, but the front air springs are adjusted together. Clearly somebody at Jaguar with a small amount of intelligence, must have asked, "Hey Boss, why are we putting two height sensors on the front when the ASM program only needs one ?"
So the second front sensor was removed at some point, but what year it was, I know not. How the ASM uses signals from two front sensors, (like my 2003 car), but only controls the front springs together, I find a bit of a puzzle.
Any Jaguar techie care to comment ?

After 'ooootis's ' latest post we all now know. When I get five minutes, I shall have a look to see if one of mine has been removed, as mine is a pre-Dec 2003 car. It could have been removed at a service as all servicing before I bought the car was at a main agent in Preston.
If it's missing it wasn't built like that! At least IMO!

I don't know a thing about a MB but I can understand the 2 in the rear and one up front. Loading the trunk unevenly or more weight in the back seat I would have to assume was the reasoning for the rear 2. The front would not be affect as much since the front passangers are more center in the car. The weight exterted on the front axle would be minimal due to moument and arm ratio calculations. (weight and balnce formulas for planes)
