Default My $200 Jag has a oil leak

Everything up the car looks really clean except an oil leak right up front at the oil filter. Does the oil filter housing have a O ring that fails?

Yeah, there's a 'figure 8' type gasket that gets brittle over time: oil filter housing gasket.

If memory serves, you can remove the filter and housing without draining the pan.

Two other areas that are prone to fluid leaks on these cars are the power steering fill tube at the 90 degree bend and the transmission cooler lines at the hose crimps, worth checking out as you go through the car.

Hello, I recently had a similar oil leak and just changed the oil pan gasket($11). Leak is gone. Very simple job to do, but I was too aggressive tightening a bolt and snapped off a head. Use a good torque wrench. lol

Default Thanks for the info

I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the link on the O ring. I had an 06 BMW 750iL and there was a oil leak between the Alternator bracket and is was $1500 in labor to do it, thank god my son totaled it before I paid to have it fixed
