My 2005 XJ8L jaguar needs help
My 2005 XJ8L with about 100,000 miles was diagnosed by 2 different mechanics that I need a new ECM(engine control monitor). The engine sounded like some of the plugs weren't firing. I live in Worcester Massachusetts and had it towed to the nearest Jaguar dealership. I spent almost $2000 on a new ECM at the dealership but car still sounds the same. It does not produce enough power and I cannot drive the car. Needs help

Koranco,
I have moved your thread from the forum for the Jaguar factory project code X308 cars (1997-2003) to the forum for the X350 (2004-2009).
If you can post all of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes that were present before the delearship replaced the ECM, and if possible all the codes that are still present, we will try to help.
Cheers,
Don

I know one thing. If I had taken my car to a dealer and spent $2000 bucks and the car still had the same problem, that dealer would still have the car.
Why did you take the car away from the dealer when what they did, didn't fix the problem? They should have never released the car knowing they didn't fix the problem. The dealer and I and possibly Jaguar, would still be having a go around.......unless you told them to replace the ECM without any diagnosis on their part.............

I thought I had ECM problem on my car but after people like JAGV8 said that they didn't know of anyone having to replace an ECU/ECM: made me look again and it turned out to be an earth fault at the ECM?
Like others suggest I would want the dealer to fix the problem after an unsatisfactory and expensive repair?

I went through this a couple years ago. My '05 XJ8L would stammer, misfire, and die. My local Brit Car shop had a little trouble diagnosing it and we all were looking at problems too severe... in the end, the 8-yr old orginal battery turned out to be the culprit - it was failing and apparently unable to supply enough power for the car to operate properly. I'll bet I spent $500 on diagnosing what turned out to be a $100 problem!
