my 05 XJR always smells like coolant,, i always check coolant level and never had to top up,,

any idea?

 

Check your water distribution pipe. It is on the front. Your thermostat housing connects to it, as well as the upper hose. On the top, it may have a thin crack.

 

With the car running. Look at but do not touch (cause ur likely to break it off) the coolant recovery tank, specifically where the little hose attaches. They ALL fail there. I bet you have a very slight drip.

It's only a matter of time before it completely fails.

i found leakage in 2 pipes connected to distribution pipe,, the upper hose is one of them,,
