Default mystery box on the tranny mount bracket

When I changed my tranny mount last saturday there was a small black box with two wires fastened to the bracket with plastic wire ties. It had a broken off piece of a white plastic stud on it that probably went into a hole in a clip somewhere, but i didn't see a place for it to go so I put it back with more wire ties after installing the new mount.

Does anyone know what it is and if it should be fastened someplace else?

I should have read the numbers on it, but I was more interested in finishing the transmission mount and driving home before the evening news. The two wires on it were a very light gage.

FM modulator - more than likely you will see the other part of plastic bracket still mounted on the bolt up top of the trans. (See the bolt on top of the trans pan on your second picture - that is where it bolts up and I see the plastic piece too) You need this to ensure no radio interference to the TCM. Disconnect, take bolt out, get some high quality adhesive (I like the plastic putty epoxy you knead) match both plastic parts back together and bolt back up to the trans.

PS - I would never recommend supporting the trans pan with a block of wood... These plastic pans tend to crack very easily..

Thanks,

Is this an OEM part then? Does it need to be in a specific location to do its job or is it wired to the TCM?

For the future, how should the transmission be held up to change the mount? I was not aware this was an issue, so maybe I was just lucky this time.

That part had a mounting hole right behind the harness connector. Had to move it out of the way to replace the connector sleeve. I also wondered what it was and the purpose.

yes, it is an oem part and I would've jacked up the trans from the rear tunnel to get to the trans mount..
