Default Mystery connectors on the rear package tray

Does anyone know what these connectors are for?

I took apart the rear of my XJR looking for a nasty rattle and found these two little beasts just sitting bare on the aluminum. I am pretty sure they are the culprit, but before I wrap them in foam tape, I wanted to check with the experts to see what they might be there for.

Thanks for any advice!

-Burt

Hi HhisIII,

I can confidently say that they are not for the subs. I powered up the Audio system while I had the package tray cover off and the subs sounded great. In fact, with the cover off, I didn't hear the rattle that was there only a few minutes ago.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Assuming you don't have a TV then I think they are for two of the four TV amplifiers as they are located on the rear parcel shelf, 6 and 8 in the attached.

It looks like the single connector for the optional DVD Player (arrowed):

The player is mounted on the luggage compartment bulkhead with the signal feed passing through the hole arrowed in red:

But there are two plugs and you can see the GPS antenna in one of the pictures. It also has a different sort of connector.

The leads do look like the TV aerial leads and they are in the same place as the amplifiers.

The plug you are holding in your third pic looks like what is called (in UK) an 'N' connector, which is used for VHF/UHF signals so it's either SatNav or FM.

Edit: oh, yes ... or TV.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the fantastic help. The schematic which U102768 posted is extremely helpful. I believe that he has nailed it. I do have the DVD system with item 14 in the rear armrest, and thus I also have item 10 in the trunk. No doubt from my use of the word "trunk", you have also figured out that I live in the states.

We do not get the TV tuner over here, although the rear seat entertainment system does still list it as an available input (nothing comes up when TV is selected). Also, I do not see either item 6 or 8 on my package tray. So, for all these reasons, I believe we have a winner!

Anyone ever try putting an ATSC tuner in these cars and hooking it up to the entertainment system?

Thanks again!

Just a quick note of follow-up, I wrapped those two connectors in some foam tape and also put a little foam tape along the back edge of the package tray cover (where it looks like plastic louvered vents) and buttoned everything back up.

Good news! My rattle has been completely cured. Now I just need to figure out how to tame the wind noise coming off the right front exterior window chrome trim, which is just slightly loose. If you push down on the front corner of the trim, it will move in by about a quarter of an inch.

Any ideas besides pulling the entire car lengths worth of trim and buying a new one?
