Nav not showing search area.

Nav not showing search area.
Hi,
I've just bought a Jaguar XJ 2006, I live in England. When I try to enter a route/destination it won't allow me because I have not selected a search area. However the search area box is blank/creamy-yellowy background colour. I have tried taking the disc out and puttig it back in again to no avail. Can anyone help or give me a solution to this problem.
