Default Need another part number. Please teach me to fish.

First I would like to thank the people in this forum for always being more than helpful with every question I have asked. It is this helpfulness that gave me the confidence to buy my 2004 XJ8 in the first place. Knowing that I had a resource like this at my fingertips to help me diagnose problems without being subjected to, how shall we say, the special treatment of the dealerships, is the only reason I could justify buying a car like this.

But that being said, for smaller issues, I would like to stop begging for fish and ask to be taught how to catch the fish myself. I tried looking online for a part number and have not been able to find it. I have searched for part diagrams and I guess I don't know where to look. What I am trying to find is the plastic "cup" trim piece in the trunk/boot lid passenger side (U.S. version) of a 2004 XJ8. There is one on either side of the license plate but on the inside of the trunk lid.

Again, if the person that comes up with the part number can tell me how they did it, I would be most appreciative so I can be a bit more self sufficient next time.

Thanks again,
Robert

C2C1539

It's in the New Jaguar EPC parts catalogue, under BODY CLOSURES AND SEALING, TRUNK LATCHING MECHANISMS AND SEALS

Took me a while to find it too!

Robert,

You need the Jaguar EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue). It can be downloaded from this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-xmas-48052/

Here's the page with the part you were looking for:

Parts can be searched by name or number.

Also, you might try the online catalogue of the new forum sponsor SNG Barratt (I've no connection with them, haven't even bought anything but people say they're OK).

Parts catalog being downloaded as we speak err type. Thank you so much for the help. It will be nice to find parts this way rather than guess the name, type it into google images and scroll through thousands of pics. Lol

Thumbs up

As an additional tip, once you have located a specific part number it becomes a very useful search term on ebay as many vendors are careful to list the relevant part number in the hopes of encouraging sales.

ps. props to you for deciding to fish rather than beg

We have recently launched a new interactive parts search facility which will allow you to look up, view pictures and purchase parts in a similar format to the Jaguar EPC.
Check out the link below and click your model to begin. As someone mentioned you can also search our site using the original Jaguar part number.
