2006 XJR with audiophile(?), external power amplifier
I'm getting very low volume and tinny sound from the all of my left speakers. Right side is fine. I tried all adjustments including DSP. Makes me think the amp is bad but I'd like to check the signals going into it, just to be sure. I have wiring diags. but they only show amp output. The only connections I see between the audio unit, the CD changer and the power amp are fiber optic. Is the audio signal sent through these?
Thanks

Thanks, I hooked up a known good speaker to the suspect side of the amp and got sound. Kinda points to the speakers. I'll have to pull the door panel to check. It seems quite a coincidence that all left speakers failed and only the left side but it certainly has happened before. Now my rear sun shade won't go up and it's more serious than just a sticking arm. So the back seat, parcel shelf and shade have to come out.
I love these cars but they are not for the faint of heart

My car came with the basic speaker setup, no amp, and sounded VERY ordinary compared with the previous car (Subaru). One of the front speakers had a small tear in the foam surround, but otherwise the rest looked ok, just didn't sound it. I decided to buy a separate 5 channel amp, but before installing that, I replaced the speakers with Focal components. What a revelation! The sound improved so much (fuller and warmer) that I haven't bothered installing the amp yet. With the Focals fitted, the head unit amp is perfectly adequate. They would probably sound very nice indeed replacing the Alpine speakers on the factory amped system.
To give Bach's Toccata & Fugue a bit more "OOMPH", I still intend (eventually) to install the amp and add a subwoofer. I fancy the idea of driving around in a Cathedral....

Yeah, go figure. The solder joints looked great but no continuity. It seems as though solder reacted with the copper wire and coated it with a non conductive covering. I ended up cutting off the soldered part and reattaching further down the wire.
Only the door speakers on the bottom needed treatment.
Meirion1, I have a Healey too, '67 3000 MkIII. Anniversary coming up, we've been together almost 40 years. Smokes, but still runs great.
