Default New First Time Owner - Seat Thigh Bolsters

I'm getting used to my "new to me" 2006 XJR. I'm not that big a guy at 5'-10" and 200 pounds but I'm finding the front seats in the XJR to be uncomfortable as a result of the very aggressive seat bottom thigh bolsters "digging" into my (and my passengers) outer thighs. I've adjusted the drivers seat bottom "extension" forward as much as it will travel and even "dipped" the front of the seat bottom down to make them less intrusive but they still produce quite a bit of discomfort after being in the car more than an hour. Anyone under 150 pounds and rail-thin might not even notice how sculptured the seat bottom cushion is. Now before any "cracks" (pun intended) about the size of my posterior I would like to say that in no way am I a "wide load". It just seems like the car was designed for smaller people.

Has anyone else noticed this? What have you done about it - just put a cusion on the seat bottom?

I have an F-type and the same issue. The seat bottom bolsters do create pressure points. A pillow would help. Another example of form winning out over function. Hopefully we can get a member to make some custom pads...

I have a 2006 XJ8L and I wonder if the seats on the XJRs are different. I am also about 5'10" and around 200 lbs. and so far I haven't noticed a problem with the seats. Granted, it took some time to adjust them to my liking. What is a bit strange is that the seats on the S-Type I had were more comfortable for me. The seatbacks fit my back better than the XJ8L's did.

The bolsters in the "Sport" versions of the X350 saloons, (this includes all XJRs), have fatter bolsters to hold you tight as you race round bends at 100 plus. Mine has these, but being a 5'5" weakling they are OK for me. I can understand that some folks may not like them. They do squash down a bit over time. Only alternative is to get a set of front seats from a scrapped non-Sport X350, or get a trimmer to adjust the amount of foam in the bolster.

My XJR is slightly older, 2004, but I find the seats to be quite comfortable. I am 6'2" and 215lbs. Perhaps they were broken in by previous owners? I've had it for almost 2 years and 20,000 miles.

For contrast though, go sit in a new M3/M4. Those seats were torture! The bottom bolsters left marks on my buttocks and thighs. I guess you have to hit the gym to drive German!

The R / Sport seats are like that, but even worse if the cushion has worn in the middle section, which makes you sit lower in the seat, pushing the side bolsters into your thighs.

My passenger seat is "like new" and it was much more comfortable than the drivers seat.

I put a new foam cushion in mine and it was an improvement, with hindsight I would have also replaced the metal springs that the foam sits on, as they also seem to have sagged.

Just to put some compative numbers on it, my passenger seat was 100%, my drivers seat was 50%, and after replacing the foam it was up to 75%, changing the springs would have made it 100% again...

I'm 248lbs and it took a little getting used to, especially my first drive home with her(155 miles). I have no problem with it now and they are still really stiff.

My ex was 120lbs and she complained about them. Then again, she complained about almost everything......which is why she's now an ex.
