Hi, sorry to trouble all the rgeular users but I have just bought a 2003 XJ V8 4.2 with 44000 miles on the clock, love teh car but was wondering if I may have a problem as when I hit 50mph and press the accelerator pedal I hear a whining noise until it goes past 55mph (ish). Sounds like it's coming form either the trasnsmission tunnel or passenger side.
This may be a normal noise, and if so you can help put my mind at rest as I have never had a jag before and have only had the car for less than a week. It was serviced before I picked it up by a main jag deealer so was essentailly serviced less than 400 miles ago.
The noise is not there if I do not accelerate, and is most notable when I press the accelerator lightly.
Otherwise love the car, has sat nav, phone etc
Also is the dipping mirrors std on the SE model, mines odn't seem to dip, but the books make reference ot that.
Can anyone help me re the whining noise?

Not familiar with the SE model, but I think the dipping right rear mirror can be programmed by the dealer. They usually come programmed to dip on reversing, but some do not like it and have it programmed not to do it. It's hard to talk about a 'whining' noise without hearing it.
