Default New nav disk install problem

I just picked up the newest nav disk for my 06 super V8 Portfolio. The disk seems to load as it should however, it will not let me input a destination. The map seems to work fine as I drive along but i can't figure out how to get it to allow me to input a destination. When I press the address button nothing happens. I have tried to disconnect the battery and reload with no success. Is there a way to reset the the system? Thanks

Unfortunately, the navigation system knows when you're moving by being connected to the ECM or instrument pack, not sure which... so nav input is limited to only recent destinations and POIs. Stop the car, and you'll find the buttons turn from grey to black, and touchable.

Default Nav

Hello, I did notice this and even when the car is in park and the button turns black and I click it, nothing. Any other thoughts?

...put the old disk back in to reset the system. If it works then update again with the new disk.

Good luck!

I don't have the old disk. I purchased the car without it.

I have seen this before on a 2006 Portfolio. The customer purchased the latest disc & he as unable to set a destination. The fix was a new nav unit.

Default nav

I am using the latest 2011/2012 release purchased from the dealer. I was hoping it isin't an issue with the nav unit hardware. If so, I won't be replacing the nav unit due to the nav system being quite antiquated and expensive compared to what is out there today. I was just hoping there was a reboot I could do to repair the issue. In addition, I have never been able to get jaguar voice to work. Could these issues be related?

@jagcrue1

I have successfully updated my nav software using the 2012 disc in my '06 Portfolio. I "think" I still have my old disc somewhere..... let me check tonight and if you want it I would be glad to mail it out to you.

For JaguarVoice.... my Portfolio does not have JaguarVoice. I was pretty surprised about this, as I thought the Portfolio had everything, but mine does not. I did a bit of research on it and the findings were somewhere between "There was a cut in date during 2006 when Portfolios got voice" and "They all had voice, but some customers didn't like it and had it removed" Not sure exactly where the truth lies. Anyway, I assume you are pressing the button (top button on the left hand side of the steering wheel switches) and the car is just muting the stereo instead of beeping (meaning it's listening) ? To be sure you don't have the hardware, you can look in the trunk on the left hand side at the component stack (where the nav player, dvd player, etc is) The voice module is supposed to be in the second slot from the bottom. I just have a big hole :-(

Another thing while I have you online here....... do you have 2 pairs of IR headphones for your rear entertainment system ?? ie my second question in the following post.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...estions-72055/ If you have them, have you been able to get them to work ??

Default nav disk

Thanks Sarc, If you would be willing to send me the disk I would pay for the shipping and your time and send it back after I try it.
As far as the headphones go, when I bought the car the wireless headphones were missing and it apprears that my portfolio does not have the jaguar voice as the trunk module is missing and the button on the wheel does only mute the radio.
Also, I have always wondered what the build number of my car was? With only 145 being produced of the 06 Portfolio, it would be nice to know which one I have. Any idea?

I'm not sure how you tell the build number. It's a pity there isn't a plaque on the cars. They were expensive enough, it would seem like a small thing to ask for a build plate :-)

If you PM me your mailing address I'll get the disc on the way to you.

I think they disabled it because of the problems with it. I rarely used it but didn't like it being disabled. I love my jag but won't buy another one.
Too few dealers, high parts prices, etc.

If you had voice before, you could try the following:

Hold down the Phone button and Menu button until a keypad appears. Input 1971, Press the Misc button, press System Options, Select the circle to the left of voice if there isn't a black dot in it, cancel out back to the usual touch screen menu then cycle the ignition.

No idea if it will work but it is free to try otherwise a trip to see someone with a WDS system might be in order.

Don't poke around too much in the menus as you might break something!

Tried it but no luck. When I try it says "no speech detected.". Could be a coincidence that it failed at the exact time I updated my Nav but I doubt it!

Jagcrue1, were you able to make your 2011-12 update work after reinserting the old dvd version? I have the same problem as you. I cannot enter new address. It will however, navigate previous addresses from my old version dvd. How did you end up fixing it? I hope it's fixable. Please let me know. Thanks.
