Default New Suspension Pump, No Power

Have just replaced the front passenger air shock on my 2005 XJ8L and had recently rebuilt the air pump. Front end looked even after shock replacement but after a couple of days the front passenger side began to slump. Decided to op for a new pump, but since the installation the pump does not power up when the car is started and both front shocks are low (vehicle too low alarm). Checked fuses under hood and in trunk, per owners manual, all good. Also swapped the relays (R1) under hood around but no pump action. One additional detail, took a couple of hard shots in bad pot holes to that front wheel before noticeing it slumping. Need help from the experts. Thanks

Had to replace the Arnott front shocks last month.
After everything was back together, the warning light for suspension would not go off.
Remembered seeing this happen before on this car,
The connector for the headlight height adj sensor lock clip, drivers side was broken.
Still worked, but was easily unplugged.
The reader said a front left shock connection was the issue
No idea if this is your issue.
Just another place to look.

If possible try driving it around for up to 20 min.

Default More Info On "No Power"

  1. Thanks for the reply meririon1 but currently my Cat can't be driven, "Too Low" alarm. I could let it idle I my yard and reverse/pull forward every few minutes if it might wake something up. Here is more trouble shooting info since my last post. Battery voltage not running is about 12.15v. Voltage while idling is 14.11. Took voltage readings at various points with engine running. At engine compartment fuse box, R1 relay, relay pulled. At slot for relay pin 1, 0 volts / pin 2, from .13 to .22 volts / pin 3, 14.37 volts / pin 5, 0 volts. At fuse 6, fuse pulled, 0 volts. At the pump electrical plug, 0 volts. At trunk fuse box, fuse 12, pulled, 14.15 volts. Fuse 52, pulled, 14.13 volts. When fuse 52 was reinserted, you can hear a solenoid by the air reservoir shift and air flow. This click lasts about 2 seconds. Had someone touch the pump, plugged in, while I pulled then reinserted fuse 52 but the solenoid shift/air flow did not correspond to any pump action. I also varified that the pump electrical plug was well seated. One thing about the front passenger shock I had replaced. It does not have the cone shaped top as the old one, however, the orientation of the air connection, and top/bottom bolt up fit. Hope this all helps. Kitty still limping.

Default Great News

Great news. Cranked my Kitty this morning and pulled slightly in reverse and my suspension pump came to life. The Gold Cat is back!
