Unhappy No Anti Rattle Spring

Title say's it all;
Replaced the front brake pads, on the 04 XJ8.
No anti rattle spring, on either side , not good.
Never heard them rattle till after the new pads were installed.
Called the Jag parts dept, seems they only come with new pads.
With my discount $160, $200 full price.
Any other sources for them???????????
They will just have to rattle if not.
Until good used ones are found.
Strange, i never noticed a rattle with the old ones.

DORMAN HW13305 is listed as compatible with the 2004 XJ8. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...422863&jsn=376
I ran into a similar issue on my 05 XJR. I had to drill out one of the pins that hold the pads in and went to Jag to get a new one. Jag said it was $160 for the brake hardware kit... I ended up buying an aftermarket kit from Centric that worked just fine and only cost 1/10 of what Jag wanted.

Looks like the Centric hardware kit for the XJ8 only consists of the rubber slider pin grommets, so that's not what you need. The Dorman kit looks like it has the anti-rattle springs, but I can't confirm.

Found that number at Rock Auto, then used it number at O'Rileys, for a set that crossed.
They didn't seem to fit, when returned, it seems were for the 07, & not the 04.
The BANE of a used anything.
THE PREVIOUS OWNERS.
Their choices of maintenance.
Or just the plane lack, & the cheapness of it.

They use the small ones on the pad's top end.
Unlike the shop manual pictures.
The 04's, & 05's, did not have the same kind of anti rattle springs as the 06's, & onward did.
If my information is correct.

Sorry to hear. It's a pain when retailers have parts listed for a car that don't fit.

Yes the parts guy at the Jag dealer verified for me.
The 04 parts drawing, did not show the same type of retainer spring, as the 07 did.
Good news is the cheap clips, are the parts from the factory.
Kinda odd as earlier Jags, look to have anti rattle springs, that look similar to the 07's.

Looks like 06's, and later were a single piston caliper, instead of the earlier twin piston design.

Yes my early model X350 has twin piston calipers with retaining clips fitted to each end of the pads. I too purchased some pads and they did not come with new clips. Spoke to my dealer and they could only provide new clips as part of the replacement pads at almost £180 per set ! I declined and managed to get the clips from another source.

My major complaint is the shop disk, manual.
Shows the same type of anti rattle spring, for all years.
No mention of the switch to single piston calipers in later models
A picture of the differences, would have saved a good bit of time.
As well as wondering just where to source a part, that never existed.

The other HUGE hassle when ordering pads or rotors is the switch over to 326mm rotors in 06. Not ALL of 06 of course, but from Chassis #G49701 - meaning last 6 characters in your VIN. Every time I have ordered brakes for my 2006 XJ8L and later my 2007 VDP, I make 100% sure I am getting 326mm rotors, not the earlier 288mm ones.

I am not sure how much would be involved in retrofitting the bigger brakes to 04 and 05 cars, but 1.5 inch bigger rotors is not insubstantial. I personally look at the single piston front rotors as a bit of a step backward, but I haven't directly compared the twin piston to single so it's hard to say. I would guess that the twin piston setup is possibly more easily modulated from the pedal, but again that's subjective. I do know that the 06 and later cars have strong brakes. Fitted with Akebono or other performance pads, quality rotors and good tires, the cars have really strong stopping power. Don't let anyone tell you Jaguar doesn't do great brakes. Motor Trend has a 2014 XJR (granted XJR's always have uprated brakes) at position 9 on the top 20 brakes of all tested vehicles doing 99 Ft. stops from 60MPH. A tie with a 2015 BMW M3 and a 2015 Camaro SS 1LE - Jaguar does good brakes.

One mystery: AFter putting 12.83 Inch rotors on all "Normal XJ's" (not XJR/Super V8) in 2006, all the aftermarket PADS seem to be the same size for the rears. I haven't been able to compare an OEM set with aftermarket, but if they are the same, it seems odd. There is still more swept area with the outer edge being larger, but keeping the same pad size still strikes me as unusual. Can anyone confirm by comparing OEM 2004 rear pads from a 288mm rotor setup with the later OEM ones from 326mm rotor pads?

Can't speak about stock pads, but the size between the 04, & 07 are notable.
07's pads were smaller both front, & rear.
The 07 is a VDP, so the later models, all probably use the smaller pads.
