No more double locking

No more double locking
I always used to close my mirrors when parking by pressing the button twice and
hence double locking the doors.
I have had a rear door lock fail when it would not lock and I traced it to a failed
microswitch in the actuator.
When the doors are double locked you cannot open the door from the outside
obviously, but also from the inside, hence if a lock fails when the doors are double
locked, you are looking at cutting a large hole in the door card and moisture barrier.
The actuator is behind the inner side of the door and you have to cut this metal to
get to the actuator.
You then have to dismantle the actuator in situ to open the lock.
I now close the mirrors with the door button and single lock the doors.
hence double locking the doors.

The lock actuator on the left rear door of my XJR failed exactly as you describe, door was locked shut & could not be opened at all.
The workshop I used to use in Switzerland was able to get the door open by removing the door card (in tact) and breaking the lock assembly by smashing it in two with a big flat screwdriver & a hammer.
Total PITA but it is possible without doing any visible damage to the interior trim.
I now have the same issue with my S-Type (left rear door locked shut) and it happened to the drivers door of my old X-Type too.
The lock actuators in our cars seem to be a matter of when, not if...

Just in case anyone wants to know, what a PITA it is to get the door open when the lock has failed in the double-locked postion....

The double-locking and driveaway locking has now been disabled on this S-Type, never again!
