Default no phone connect dialog?

I recently bought an x358 and I'm trying to pair the phone.

as per manual i should press the phone button and get a pairing option.
but al it says is: no phone connected and then reverts back to whatever screen was open before pressing the button.

in the boot there is a module: 7w93-10d893-ab which should actually be the most up to date bluetooth module model you can get for these types of cars.

Is there some undocumented way of pairing the phone or is the module broken?
what can this be, how can i troubleshoot it?

no one?

reading up some more about this and i see a lot of mentions about something called a BTUM and that it should be under the armrest.

i didnt notice to be anything there.

also not clear to me if you need it if you have the 'silver' bt module... i seem to have the plastic one (as shown in picture)

You probably have the better plastic module that supports several phones and does not need a BTUM. The older style silver metal ones did not in the research that I did.

If all your other modules connected to the fiber optic ring are working then there is not a problem with the ring/loop.

Run a simple diagnostic to see if all modules are listed. This can be done from the dash and appropriate buttons being pressed. I forget how now but others might chime in.

Even if it is recognised it still could be broken. A microphone and an aerial/antenna are required just not the BTUM.

looks bad i think, it says:
phone type: none

could this be a bad module or are did all XJ's come with a BT module installed but not necessarily enabled through software or something?

is there a way to enable it?

the car has voice command and mics installed so looks like everything is there to make it work.

Should be plug and play if it is working.

i bought a secondhand replacement for the module, so then i know if the current one is broken.
should i disconnect the battery before replacing it?

i know on my previous range rover evoque disconnecting the battery had implications for the board computer and the dealer had to restore some settings or something. I probably will be fine with this jag since it's much older tech, right?

Does your voice command work?

If it does then the Bluetooth module is suspect.

Did you connect an antenna for the BT module?

Friend, is your head unit original? It says X409, which is X-type, not XJ VDP. By the looks of it nothing is connected to the fiber optic system, so it is either dead or not activated at all.
