Default No sound from Nav Premium System

Just recently purchased 2005 VDP radio on, no sound, equalizer all highlighted in red (bass, treble, etc) Multitude of answers, but do not know which is right. Previous owner says "Since this car comes from West Coast, you are in Midwest, Nav sytem needs CD update, that is why sound is off." Others say amp no good, or disconnect neg battery cable to reset sound.

If I disconnect neg, will it lock in park and not allow shifting. Was told this was a possibility security reasons.

I call bull on the previous owner story. Press & hold phone + menu, then enter code 917. In the menu select sub-system info, what does it say?

The main menu should look like this, press the "Sub-System Info" button and take a picture or describe the screen that shows up.

Default Heat makes my audio system too tired to make a sound...

NY here... Last summer my audio went mute on me, and came back to life the next day as if nothing happened. While it's mute, it all appears to be working - it changes CDs in the trunk, shows track numbers, radio station and all - but no sound comes out. After this happened a few times, I realized that its the heat. It was fine all winter.

Overnight the car gets garaged, and audio is always A-Ok in the morning. But if the temperature is in the mid 80's or higher (Fahrenheit) and you leave it parked - or even just drive it for an hour or so, the sound goes mute! It just happened again yesterday.

Very annoying. Has me thinking about swapping out the whole screen unit for something with a Navigation system that can actually be used and something with an iPod jack. I don't even know it that's possible since the screen also contains the climate controls, but it sure is irritating.

Looks like your D2B ring is broken somewhere and the headunit can not find the amplifier.

I assume you also have a CD-changer in the trunk - that is also missing from the list.

You should check all optical connectors are plugged in devices and not just hanging. If that all seems OK another possible reason could be a "dead" device in the optical ring - that is much trickier to diagnose though.

There is a CD changer in the trunk, but the carriage for the CD's is missing. Would this cause the issue with the system in any form? Causing it to have no sound. Or is it more like a connector or cable issue?

It should all still work normally without the cd changer carriage, it just says "no changer". Sounds like there could be a cabling/connector issue somewhere.

It also looks like your software could do with an update (my 2004 has 05/09/09 as the version date.) and I am not saying this is the most upto date version because I don't know ( and it probably isn't!).

It is a connector issue or a "dead" device, the latter is unlikely, but possible. Without the cartridge the sound system would work properly it would say "No magazine" if you try to switch to the CD-changer, but radio and single CD should work fine.

Thanks for all the replies. I will look into a connection issue. Ciao
