2008 xj8 vanden plas
checked all fuses, ok
checked amp , connections ok

Apologies for stating the obvious (but it has happened ! ) ... the radio is actually turned on ?

The on/off switch operated by pushing the volume control (ie the rotary volume control, not the buttons on the steering wheel)

yes, it's on. you can see the station , and see the volume move up and down. also when you push the phone button ,it says there is no phone connected. Everything worked just fine just before it stopped

Does sound work on CD i.e. is it just the radio or all audio? If you have nav, is that giving audio?

Smile no sound

so I looked at some different blogs, ended up pulling the center console to get the radio out to see if there were any loose wires, it was fine.
I contacted "just answer" the mechanic walked me through a few steps on the radio, finally decided that the fiber optic had lost connection, he said to disconnect negative battery cable for 30 min then reconnect --- it worked !!!!!

there was no sound at all.
