Default No spring tension in shallow console cupholder

Hi All. My cat has ready HVAC, so my console space is super shallowv one. My cupholder latch itself works fine, but something has come loose inside somewhere to where it doesn't spring open when I push the button.

Does anyone have experience with opening one of these up? I have the console out of the car right now while I work on the head unit, and I'm wondering if it's fixable.

I'm taking it you have the rear HVAC system. The 99 - 03 is not a direct fitment!

It is.... but a royal PITA. I did mine a while back. While I fixed it I wound up replacing the assembly.

If yours is black I still have the old one. Feel free to reach out, thx.

I ended up replacing my console cupholder / cover. There's a provider of new-old-stock based in the UK that sells them on eBay.

Yesss... I did the same thing. I'm sure we purchased from the same seller. I was shocked when I came across it. Swap out is very simple and quick...

I ended up going this route also. Ordered mine yesterday.
I didn't realize my original post had so many typos! The perils of typing paragraphs on cell phones...
