noise in right rear under during low gear shift
Hello Everyone. Sorry I haven't posted much, but I do jump on from time to time, to read posts, and learn more about my '05 XJ8-L.
I have noticed a noise from my right rear. It only happens with "spirited" acceleration, and only when switching gears either 1-2, or 2-3, when the rear dips slightly. It sounds like a little puppy bark. I noticed it a few times shortly after buying the car, but wondered if I just imagined it. Recently, my son has imitated the sound when it happens, so I guess it's legit
I had my neighbor ride along with me, and he thought it may be the right rear tire chirping slightly when it changes gears, but I don't think that is it. For the most part when I drive the car, I am just cruising, so it doesn't happen. It only happens when I am accelerating harder than normal. I am not sure if it is an issue that needs to be addressed, but if it is, I would like to fix it sooner rather than later.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds very much like "the Cherp", (Jaguar called it a "Squawk" !). This is covered under TSB JT800070 dated 29th November 2007 for XJ VIN range G00442-G49700.
Basically it involves putting an additive in the transmission fluid once only, unless the fluid has been changed, when it can be used again. It doesn't say it, but if the additive doesn't cure the fault, it is likely a box strip-down is needed.
Part number for the additive is C2C 37157

Thank you very much for your response Fraser! Before responding, I searched and found TSB JTB00070, and read through the bulletin. My Vin definitely falls within that range. I also read through the posts regarding this additive, and the replacement additive that is currently available.
My son and I took the car out this afternoon, to try to recreate the sound. Of course, it did not make the noise at all. From everything I have read though, I believe your answer is correct. I will keep monitoring it, and try to decide if I should add the additive, or leave the transmission sealed as intended.
Thanks again!!
