Noticed a bit of water in the trunk where the spare sits

I had this problem
Drove me nuts.
I did all the visual checks like on that pdf above but saw nothing wrong.
Then I replaced the main trunk seak, still no change.
Then I took it to a glass shop, one guy got in the closed trunk with a light, the other guy slowly trickled water from the hose all over the rear of the car.
It was entering in the area of the lower rear glass corner on drivers side, it seems a seam on the body was not sealed at time of assembly.Jaguar have heard of this but they chose not to help me as my car was out of wtty). They were talking about pulling the glass to get to the seam in the box section; this was going to be a very expensive operation.
I ended up carefully shooting clear windshield sealer (Napa) via a large bore hypo from a doc friend, applied it 3 times over the course of a day between the lift up flap of the rubber and the glass. Now this is not the ideal way to fix what is a manufacturing fault as it is not the glass rubbers that are leaking, but it does stop the water getting to that seam.
That area where it trickles down is right next to the DVD player and there are huge wiring looms in that area with all sorts of connectors so it is something you need to get on asap.
It has been 12 months now and my spare wheel well is bone dry (PS I live in The Pacificc North West)

Is it water? I had the same symptoms, it turned out it was sulfuric acid coming out of the vent tube from the battery. Be very careful, that stuff is caustic!
Wipe it up wearing gloves, and then reattach the drain tube with some caulking/sealant. Since then I haven't had any more "water".

Don't forget that even if there are no leaks, a car standing outside on a car sales lot gets no air circulation through the body, and condensation can form on the inside panels, and finally end up at the lowest point as it drips down. The boot area is where the saloon air goes as the climate control pushes fresh air in at the front. There are then vents to allow it out somewhere, I know not where these are.

Even if water is leaking through the carpet above the spare tire, the carpet probably won't be wet. It will probably just flow right through the carpet and dry before you have a chance to feel it. It was the same way on a Lexus I had--water was leaking through the carpet but carpet still felt dry.

well it was dry today as it poured out but i did not drive the vehicle all day so im wondering if its just a little water splashing up through this drain hole you guys speak of.. or maybe the battery? thing is its an interstate battery not a stock one i presume? the battery did look like it had some condensation on the top of it....

I had some water in the boot on one occasion.
There is a seam which runs left to right across the rear vertical panel and right down at the bottom of the boot (about 2 inches up from the metal floor).
This seam is riveted every few inches and there is NO sealant!
If there is a lot of water going down the channels on the side of the boot lid I think the drain route can't cope and it flows up through this seam and into the boot.
It was my own fault I was cleaning the car and had directed a pressure hose at the boot channel.
Hope that helps
