Hi all, I bought an 07 XJR about 4 months ago and it runs and drives great. It's my first jag and I must say, you and I have excellent taste in cars. Anyway, my mechanic - not a dealership but a UK car specialist - pointed out that on the air intake tube there is red double-sticky tape instead of an o-ring - see picture. I asked him to go ahead and source the oring and put it on. He checked with the dealer and unfortunately, he said they don't just make the oring, I have to buy a whole new air intake tube, and these are rare and discontinued. He quoted me $1200 installed.
As far as I know nothing is wrong with the air intake tube so $1200 is a lot for an O-ring. Does anyone know where I can get this seal or the air intake tube for cheaper? The tube in the other picture below is the part that comes with the oring, though the oring is not in the picture.
Any help is great, thanks. -P

Put a caldoofy pipe on with a silicone hose and hose clamp, job done for 140 pounds, they are on ebay. When i took mine off i dont recall and o ring but i will vheck it today, if i find it i can measure it and then you can buy one from a Bearing/auto parts place.
If your talking about the black rubber part that goes between the air intake and throttle body, held in place w/ 2 clamps - correct not available separately.
Thanks so much but I need the seal on the other end of the pipe - closer to the air filter.
Hi phoretwan,
Are you certain you are missing anything? The red tape on your intake tube is not a replacement of an original part - it appears to be an attempt to supplement the seal. In the original setup, the black plastic air intake pipe just fits directly onto the aluminum tube with an ovate hose clamp. At the other end, there may be a rubber ring of some sort molded into the intake pipe, but it is not shown as available separately. As far as I know, the hose clamp does the work at that end as well. Here's the parts diagram:
No I am not sure I am missing a part - just going on what the mechanic said. Very interesting and hopefully great news!! Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. You're a legend. -P

There is soft rubber electric tape, which I would try. This tape is generally used as a self fusing tape perhaps for splicing large wire and cable. Not to be confused with thin vinyl tape.
