I did lot of research what oil to use.
My manual states to watch out for "M2C913", but on the castrol or liquimoly websites, I get recommendations for oils which don't show that label.
I also learned, that there 's uv-light sensitive marking in jag dealers' oil.

What brand do they use today ?

 

The handbook says, petrol or diesel, 5w30 (Ford) WSS-M2C-913-B. Castrol Magnatec A1 5w30 fulfills that spec.

Actually M2C913-C replaces and exceeds 913-B, and according to their websites the following oils fulfill 913-C:

If I go to castrol's site and enter my jag's data, I get the following:

Castrol EDGE 0W-40 A3/B4
Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 C3
Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A3/B4
Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1

My (no-jag-)dealer has filled the jag with castrol edge, which has these specs:
API SN/CF
ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4
VW 502 00/ 505 00
MB-Freigabe 229.3/ 229.5
BMW Longlife-01
Porsche A40
Ford WSS-M2C937-A
PSA Freigabe B71 2296

So what is the significance of "M2C913" ? Obviously castrol recommends an oil that isn't labeled with that magic code.
Do jag dealers care about this label or do they just fill in what oil companies websites recommend ?

 

My experience is with non-Jaguar dealers but I can tell you that most dealers buy various brands from local distributors.

In *some* instances there was a unique oil that could only be purchased from the manufacturer...or that the manufacturer demanded that dealers use. In most cases, though, dealerships struck a deal with local distributors that sold Valvoline, Quaker State, or whatever.

I strongly suspect the same or similar for Jag dealers.

My local Jaguar main agent uses Castrol Magnatec 5W40. It's not cheap either !

 

Jaguar openly admits to having a marketing scheme with Castrol. That's what most dealers sell.

There's nothing that stops an owner from using any product purchased anywhere that meets the Jag specs- warranty is not affected.
