Oil Fill Confusion

Oil Fill Confusion
Just a warning form recent experience. From what I can tell from experience, Jaguar has no idea how much oil their 4.2 V8 takes during fill. The owners manual says it takes 5.8 quarts, Alldata says 6.4 quarts and it actually takes 7.0 quarts from careful refill. I just had the dealer change the oil for the regular free service and they put in 8 quarts, where I had to suck one out of it! To be frank, I've never seen anything like it! Just thought I wold let this group know.

RE: Oil Fill Confusion
Yes to the above. I just changed my oil a week ago, and added what the owner's manual said to....and the oil hardly registered on the dipstick! I kept adding and adding a bit at a time, and by the time the stick showed full, I had added 7.0 quarts. So much for trusting the owner's manual!

RE: Oil Fill Confusion
I agree 100% w/the 6.4 qts.AndI think there's a TSB on thisas some Owner's Manuals are wrong on this point for the 4.2 liter, normally aspirated engines.
I change my own oil+filter (Fram PH5618)on our '04 XJ8.Six qts. takes it to "min" on the dip stick, 7 qts. takes it to "max" on the dip stick. I always re-fill with 7 qts., of course.
