Default Only one side of audio works!

I just got home with my 2008 XJ Vanden Plas and noticed that on the right side only the tweeter and maybe the midrange speaker was working. The left side seems and sounds fine. Does anyone know how the amps are hooked up? Seems strange to me that both front and rear on the passenger side are out. Could both 6 1/2" be blown?

Check this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...eakers-180111/ Was an issue on my 06 VDP as well. My right side and rear had to be done. All good now.

you might check the speakers first. The Alpine drivers used must be bottom of the line. Replaced mine, they were shot. About three were playing.
The 6 1/2 inch subs are an issue. Put some Kicker there, but they have no kick. No real bass.

Yeah, the Alpine door speakers just basically will quite after a while, infinity ohms on the coil.
I found eBay replacements for my two dead ones.

Corrosion is the problem. I've had to do 3 door speakers and then I discovered the dash speakers were shot also!. The door speakers suffer, quite badly, from corrosion of the wires where the cable plugs in. I have soldered them up again but it is a royal PITA because the solder doesnt stick to the very small wire due to the corrosion, you are trying not to drip solder on the cone and depending where the break is you may not be able to get to it. The dash speakers just fatigued the wires and broke them, zero space tp fix them so I had to order replacements. I cn tell when there are duff speakers in the sysem as I keep having to turn the volume up. If the vol level starts to go over 11 then there is probably a problem whith one or more speakers.

I had the same thing happen to my 2005 XJ Vanden Plas. I removed the inside door panels, took the speakers out and re-soldered the main wires where they connect to the speakers. Worked fine after that. Good luck.

Wish I had known that it would’ve save me a couple of hundred dollars on replacements

I actually had to solder a new wire from the connector to the voice coil wire, kind of a bypass of the voice coil solder joint. One of my speakers was still open after that, so i replaced it.

Time for an update. Ordered a couple of used factory speakers on Ebay to replace my rear door speakers. Both of them did not work and suffered from the bad solder joint. Returned them and ordered a pair of Infinity Reference 6532EX speakers. Also found a set of adapters to make the install a bit easier. So now I have 3 working door speakers along with the small tweeters in the opening by the door latch. When I have only the front speaker(s) on it does not sound like the dash speakers are working. Do those also suffer from the bad solder joint? How do you get those out? Will probably replace both front door speakers with the same Infinity speakers but will get the IX version which has a tilted tweeter along with a switchable 3db cut. So far sounds good but not loud enough for me.

The speakers in the dash have two screws holding them in. Just pop the cover up carefully (as with all plastic in direct sunlight the tabs holding the covers down can be brittle). Use a short handle phillips to remove the two screws and unplug. All speakers are prone to broken solder joints unfortunately.

I found in my dash speakers that the very thin wires had all broken. Virtually impossible to get in there to solder but I found some on ebay so all sorted now.
