Opening an x358 side mirror; what is what?
Hello
I am trying to swap a flat glass in a side mirror for a spherical one, and this is what it looks like inside:
My car only has the auto-dimming, it does not have heating in the side mirrors, I am like 90% sure about that. So I wonder why there's both the black connector AND those two wires...? Also would anyone know how to release those?
Cheers
Jarda

So apparently all x358s might have had the heated mirrors as standard, possibly. I am still in doubts given dealers like to inflate the list of options, rather then not listing some just because they are a standard.
(When inquiring about the options on my car with the original dealer the option of heated mirrors was not listed.)
I'll just check either using my hand or a laser thermometer.
And the wires seem to be connected via spade connectors.
I might have an idea how to defeat that black connector, once I do that I'll check the wires myself.

If it is the same in the X358 as it is in my X350, the black connector is for the auto- dimming function, whereas the other two cables are for the mirror heating. And yes, they should be spade connectors that can just be pulled out. The black connector should have a kind of safety that can be unlocked with a small screwdriver.

It hasn't been clear to me whether one is supposed A) to press down on that thing (does it give?) or rather B) lift up the plastic on the opposite (male) part of the connector... while pulling.

When you fit connectors together there is a click
which means that they are locked so you have
to defeat that lock before you can disconnect them.
To do that you have to insert a thin blade eg say small
screw driver into the female part and lift it over the plastic nib
that is locking it. You could leave your tool in position and pull apart

I tried pushing down on the nib, I felt no give though.
So then I tried to push a tip of a knife under that female part, but wasn't able to perform... (wow, that sounds just great), I wasn't able to keep the knife in place and pull both connectors apart - with the glass blocking the access and with my fingers being numb due the low temp... (12°C outside, the garage keeps solid 0°C)
I'll grab something that just stays put when inserted and give it another try.
Thanks again!

Smart guy
Sure, this part has been very clear to me. 👍
This is what I wasn't sure about, thanks!

Heating the plastic a bit is always helpful when the temperatures are low.

Regardless of which wiring is for what function, I can confirm that the car does have the side-view mirror heating. (Despite this option not being listed and the car originating on Hawaii.)
Tested it two days ago when the air humidity kept fogging the mirrors to milk-white... after turning defogging on the mirror cleared within 10 seconds.
