Im 62 and have ALWAYS loved Jags. I have the chance to buy a white 04 XJR, with 19,700mi for $25,975. Clean carfax. Are there any known reliability issues with this car?? All Ive driven since 1980 is highly reliable Japanese cars. ANY comments would be REALLY appreciated

Hi Tomin,
As best I can determine, there were issues with the air suspension on the 2004 XJ8s. Also, the NAV systems tended to be a little finicky. I would be inclined to go with one without it if possible. Not sure about the follow on years though. The rest of the running gear like the engine, transmission and rear end were fairly reliable. You may want to look into an extended warranty if available. You are probably OK on mileage, but 2004 may a bit too old. Other XJ owners or technicians familiar with the make and model year could provide valuable insight.
Good luck,
Mike

TominMA, you are 62! Live it up, buddy. Take her for a spin and if you love her, get her. As long as you are confident in an initial inspection, history, etc. Of course do enough researchto mke you comfortable but, I don't know of any man made machine that can't have problems. If you've got no warranty, buy one or put aside some $ for upkeep and repairs. If you don't spend it in a year, you've got it for the next. In the meantime, you can simply enjoy the Jaguar experience. Live it up!
I wonder if you go to the Lexus, Acura, etc forums will there be NO posts about problems with those machines?

I'd consider selling my Jag for 20K and I am in MA... :-) The torque converter has been the only high ticket item I had to replace so far. I am due to replace the rear shock tower bushings. The part is only $35, but is like 4 hours labor :-( per side.
So far, I have found most wear parts are priced like any other car, but labor can be more.

Price seems way too high for that car. I would try to get the price down to about $20K if no warranty with the car, and adjust from there if it does have extended warranty available.
Six months ago I got an 05 VDP Select Edition, 23K miles, with a 4 year/100K mile extended factory warranty for just over $25K.
Good luck with the purchase.

I would say it's a good price for that many miles. The xjr you pay a premium for, I bought my 04 xjr 8/3, had a shade under 52k on it, and paid 25,500 out the door, which equates to around 23,500 asking price. I saw cheaper xjr's, but every one I test drove would have a problem with it, smoking, things not working properly, etc. So I say it's a fair price, and if it checks out, you should get it. Rothwell, let me know where you can buy 04 xjr's with 20k miles for 20 grand, and I'll scoop them up and sell them in the chicago land area
