Our cars need a hood leaper
#21
My 2005 Jaguar XJR had the leaper as standard.
I did not like it and replaced it with a growler badge and received sooo many dislikes for doing that!
I put the leaper back on when I sold it.

I worked for a Jaguar dealership in the early 90s, Series III cars and the XJ40 cars did not come from the factory with the leapers. We use to sell the them for $250.00 installed. You could buy cheap leapers from JC Whittney for less than $10.00 The cat part looked the same but the base was different from the ones ordered from Jaguar
I removed the leaper from my 05 XJR, had the hole in the hood ( Bonnet) welded up and filled before having it and the front bumper cover painted. My cars was purchased as a salvage unit. It was not wrecked but parked close to something hot enough to melt the right headlight, bumper cover and 1/2 the grill. The finish on the hood was also scorched so paint work was inevitable.

Who cares about air suspension problems etc when you want a leaper and don't have one.
Or have one and don't want it, I forget.
They look great on our model. Just my arm won't allow me to point an electric drill at the hood.
(Jackra, that was a consolation Like :-) since you no longer have a car never mind a leaper!)

To Leap or to NOT leap...
Most of the Mk2, S-Type etc had centre mouldings that the leaper fitted in with. Without that, I think they look a bit lost. I did love the ones on my Mk1 and Mk2 (and Mk 9), sort of pointing your way down the road.
I find that anything dangling on the key is distracting, so I just have the fob and nothing else in the Jag. The other cars have the key on the column, not the dash.

Well, forget the leaper. All NZ-New cars (all of them, at least X350 and X100) don't have the large touch-screen but the two smaller screens. I can't believe it and for this reason, wouldn't buy NZ-new X350.
Of course there's always one on Trademe that defies my description, in which case I would question it's provenance (i.e. whether new from the official importers or sourced otherwise)
Jeez, when I bought my car, all I knew was I wanted the one with the more roundy shape!

Leapers are Mandatory in my book
I personally have owned 7 different Jags and I have had a LEAPER on each and every one. It should definitely be on the hood! Its just not a JAG without it in my opinion

Regarding pedestrians and safety, if God had intended us to walk forever He would not have invented Jaguars.
But seriously, I believe they are now "break-away", which is good news for the pedestrian villains I s'pose...
Daimler AG (I think I got away with that) no longer have their version of "leaper" just a badge.

I thought it would look bad, but ... seeing the 'baby laeper on Jeremy's hood, it looks pretty good. I thought maybe a leaoer on the upper grill would be nice. But ... each to his own.

The Leapers still have other uses after the vehicles are no longer useful.
One is mounted on the end of my bar in the basement. That's a Borg Warner Model 66 transmission case out of a series III that I used for a bar stool bottom. The other is still on some rusted out Series III Wings, Bonnet, Lower Valance, Grill and Bent Series one bumper I just couldn't throw away.

Hi guys,
we have same different opinions on the leaper topic around here.
One year ago i purchased my XJ (X358 4.2 litre) with the leaper installed on the hood and i leave it where it is. Even the lady said it suits her well.
On the other hand i would'nt realy like one on my XK8 for instance. Its a sedan thing i think.
And just for security reasons i hold a tiny leaper on my desktop.
