Ok it is almost the time for my car to do an inspection for I have to fix my p0101 code. It comes on and off by itself and I don't think it is the MAF sensor because I had that replaced before. I have a feeling it is due to an air leak, because my mechanic says he can hear it when car is running! Seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine.
I would like to do a smoke test, where you blow smoke into one of the hoses to see where the leak is coming from. My question is, where would be a good spot to blow smoke into?
Also where is the full load breather hose located on my car? It is a 2004 XJR.
Here's the section that explains the P0101 code and possible causes:
Regarding the air you are hearing on the passenger side of the engine, the PCV valve is mounted to the right-side cam cover and it is typical for it to exhibit the sound of rushing air, but at least one member found that the seal for the valve was leaking air. I think in his case it was triggering a P0174 code but I may be recalling incorrectly.
In the diagram below, the PCV valve is Part 2, and the Full Load Breather Hose is Part 4. I'm not sure if the diagram shows the normally-aspirated or supercharged parts, but they should be similar:
