Default Parts Nomenclature

Hi, I'm fairly new to Jaguar and haven't been CLEARLY been able to understand the parts systems and nomenclature used.

Since I am interested in adding a voice module, I'll use this as an example. In the various threads I've seen that for my model year I should be seeking a XR8-49645 module. Except at the dealers or "official" jag part places, I cannot find reference to this part at all. I've been told that this is the jag part number that I would order, but what comes in is entirely different. Specifically the part would be a 2R8F-14B292, which I can find a slew of in various places around the world such as ebay.

These all have various suffixes (2R9F-14B292-AB, -AD, -BD, - FC, etc., that I have not been able to correlate to any particular model or country.

I'm assuming that the higher up the alphabet chain the -xx goes, the later the revision or perhaps simply the latest manufacturing batch. Is this true? If so, it seems that there would be some backward compatibility - that a -BB could relace anything before it (-AA through -BA), but not necessarily the reverse.

Other than a simple "one-up" sequence, is there any rationale? For instance could an AB be made in (pick the year) 2004 in the second quarter of the year while a BC would be made in 2005 but in the third quarter?

Going back to the voice module itself. Since they all seem to have the 2R8F-14B292 portion, regardless of the suffix, would ANY of these work in my 2006 XJ8 regardless of the country I bought it from? I assume that it it came from Italy, the voice the module speaks might be in Italian, but trained to my voice in English, would it work (Unit speaks Italian, but recognizes English commands)? Could a French module simply be reprogrammed by the dealer and voile it is now an English speaking / recognizing unit?

Unrelated to to my voice questions, I have seen other parts that also add a "/001" or the like after the -xx suffix, which I take to be a further specification, perhaps a color or specific program or a specific country perhaps?

Hopefully someone can enlighten me? Oh, and if they happen to have a voice module, REASONABLY priced, I'd be interested!

Thank you!

Default suffix meanings

I believe the suffix directly correlates with the country of destination. For example; DD (Deutsch...Germany), AD...America, BD...Britain, etc. Not sure. Can anyone else verify?

Default

There are two voice activation modules, both of which are country and VIN-range specific.

This is the part listed in JEPC that is for the United States market:

On the lower right side of the label, look for ENG for English or DEU for German.

That's the best way I've been able to tell if it works for me.

There has been some discussion about wether these can be flashed to other languages. To the best of my understanding, no confirmation on forums.

I can help you with a German module if you want to attempt the flash.

Look on eBay and check the photos of the labels for the language designation(s).

Thanks
Mag
