Pinging/knocking under light throttle
#23
The TSB's attached would not download correctly. Can they be attached again? GTR is not taking my card for some reason and I would rather not pay the $6 anyway.
Using sport mode all the time will reduce your fuel economy, mostly in town. My 2007 XJ8L gets 32MPG highway and almost 24MPG in town. Rather amazing compared to my 1998 XJR which would do just over 20 MPG on the highway and about 16 in town. The XJR was more fun to drive though. I had a 1994 XJ12 before that and it got about the same fuel economy as the XJR.

I had this pinging knock on light throttle for a over a year plus a check engine light after it happens. I recently bought a Bluetooth code reader elm 127 I believe and saw that my egr valve was not functioning. I dismantled mine and put it back together (thinking it was stuck) turned on the ignition, heard a whirring noise from the unit that I didn't hear before. Started her up and never heard the knocking again. 7 months now without a problem.

ELM327 OBD scanner I presume. I have one as well. Mine is USB but uses the same chip.
I checked DTC's and my car had none and my check engine light is not ON.
I have a friend that owns a local shop specializing in high-end cars. They service many Jaguars. I sent this to him:
If you go here:
TOPIx - TOPIx
You can get the flash files. They charge $197 for the file. OBD/SIR regulations require that independent shops be able to do the flash programming. This site: Jaguar - National Automotive Service Task Force
has the details for Jaguar. The capability matrix shows that a standard J2534 programming interface can reflash the powertrain and trans control.

I am going to see if he can reflash my car using his tools. I am in this industry actually. I was at the SAE worldwide OBD Symposium just last week in Indianapolis. I know OBD pretty well. There is also an effort underway by NASTF (nastf.org) and other industry groups to push for more "right to repair" legislation forcing manufacturers to allow 3rd party service.
