Interesting! I never noticed that the '06 (and I assume '07) Portfolio had functioning vents, while the '08+ models did not.

So here's what happened, apparently the front end of my car had been repainted. After I installed the vents with hot glue they started coming loose. I had removed them only to find the paint had gotten soft where I'd stuck them on. Crap, now I was forced for a permanent fix. I removed the vents and painted the fender flat black to simulate a showed hole. I cleaned the vent up, sanded the edge down. Next I laid some bondo in and sanded to just under the edge to give the 3M double sided tape room so the vent would lay flush on the vender. Removing the edge made them much more flexible to lay flush with the fender. After installing the vents I added a small bead of extra strength RTV (grey) then once that dried I put some temp spacer on the trailing edge (open side) and added some black RTV inside to use as adhesive as well as to provide a proper spacer once I removed the temp pieces. I'm pleased the way they came out considering I almost made a big mess of the whole thing.

Sorry but they don't look "right" primarily because of where they are located. They are too far forward.
If you could put it right in the middle between the wheel arch & the door jamb, it would be "neutral", a little further back towards the door jamb & it gives the impression of "speed" and "power".
See the factory location;
Car companies spend millions on design to make their cars look good, balanced, tasteful.
It's located there for a reason!
Too far forward & it looks non-functional, like something bought online & stuck on with double-sided tape...

...I tend to agree with Cambo, it's little too far forward. Like you said, only the peeps on the Jag site would know.
If you didn't have the spear repeaters, it might've work. I have the ovals and still toying with the idea of the fender vent. Additionally, I don't think your color is compatible with it. Sorry. Mine is black so I think it will [might] be better... but we'll see if I take the plunge.
Great effort, though!

I actually did this mod to my 05 XJ8L when I first bought the car about a year and a half ago. In order to get the proper positioning, I had to remove the signal repeaters and the body molding that ran along the doors. I wired an orange LED strip to act as the signal repeater and placed it behind the chrome vents, just enough so that the light appears to shine out from behind. Not a day passes when I don't get stares and compliments.
Another recent mod I did was to switch out the grille surround and the boot plinth for the fluted Daimler pieces.
