Possible cheap and easy (like me) error/code fix
So there I was, driving down the road, minding my own business, thinking how great is is to drive a Jag, when suddenly -
the instrument panel lit up like a pinball machine and the car stalled right there in the street. It would not restart until I turned the key to the off position for twenty seconds. The car started, drove about two blocks then stalled again. This time when I got it started, it stayed running, but the CHECK ENGINE light stayed on and the info center read something like "Auto transmission systems failure" and "DTS definitions not found." I nursed it home and plugged in my OBD2 tester (this is an essential piece of equipment for any car owner these days. Only $50). In addition to the codes above it displayed "Throttle position sensor malfunction."
I drove around for the next day or so with dash lights flashing and occasional stalling. Did some research on this forum and did not find a similar situation.
Then I remembered reading something here about resetting your Jag's systems memory by removing the battery ground cable and touching the positive post. I thought it would be worth a try in this situation and - viola, it worked!
It has been almost two weeks with no problems. Must have been a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). So I thought I would pass this along to the rest of the group. Maybe it will save someone several hundred dollars.
All I did was remove the negative cable, touch it to the positive post for 30 seconds, then reattach.
Hope this helps someone.
Happy Holidays!
