Possibly buying 2006 VDP
#21
It's excellent. I love the ride and it feels quicker than I expected. The interior is immaculate. It just feels like they thought of everything. My wife has had her S-Type for many years and it was time to get in a Jaguar myself. I originally sold my GTO because it takes so long to get a family of four into a two door especially at +100F and I was just driving the S-Type since my wife doesn't work, but I couldn't pass up the price on this car and I have the piece of mind that my wife and kids will have the S-Type to go out if they need do while I'm working. I've never owned the same color of car twice and I've always wanted a white car.

Other things that have failed on my 05 XJ8L
I've had my XJ8L for 3 years now. 75k miles on it now. Some of the stuff I've seen fail, and worthwhile to check before committing to a used car:
1) Driveshaft vibration. $2.5k problem, since the rubber connecting bushings are not sold separately. I have spent months trying to find the root cause of highway speed vibrations.
2) Failing seals on final drive. Jaguar does have the seals, but not the bearings one should replace with them, nor do they sell a new final drive. (I'm sure I could source the bearings, but that would require pulling the final drive and I use this car as a daily driver).
3) Audio amplifier. Mine cuts out when hot (weather or use). Replacements are $1k or so. Could possibly be fixed by good electronics buff, probably caps or opamps.
4) Bushings, bushings, bushings. Must have spent $2k, *********** and indies apparently don't know how to press in new bushings into pieces of steel.

I'm good on 1,2, and 3. I'm thinking I need some bushings up front, but I do my own work and I have connections with people with the proper presses. I took the whole center console out today to install some equipment I use for work and discovered I have Bluetooth too. Damn I did well with this. So far I've only bought a right front sidemarker(cracked) and hood shocks. The car is perfectly dry under it, no leaks, not even a smell of coolant.
