Default Possibly selling my 2005 XJR

Well my wife wants me to sell the XJR so I am thinking about it seriously.

Even tho it is almost immaculate, with a VDP interior,it is modified.

So I am thinking it would be a difficult sale even un modified let alone modified.

Thoughts?

I feel your pain. We will never get what we have invested in these. Once I got my wife to comprehend that, she wasn't nagging me as much to sell it.

From what I have seen over the years here on the forums, you have really kept up with yours. Hopefully you get to keep it; if not, that you get close to what you ask for it.

Why would your wife want you to sell it? If you still enjoy owning and driving it and have done all that work it's your choice, not hers. I'd never allow my wife to dictate what car i buy/sell.

We have three vehicles. A 2013 Range Rover Sport HSE LUX, the XJR, and a 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie.

Because of Covid I did not drive the XJR much this Summer and I almost never drive it in the Winter.

We are moving to MA even if we have to put this this house in MD on the market vacant.

That will be a downsizing move and being realistic having 3 vehicles does not cut it. Actually 4 as I have a 27 foot boat up there on the property.

I would prefer to keep the XJR and the Dodge however my wife will not drive the XJR and the Dodge is too big for parking in some shopping areas
and she takes the RR fairly frequently here.

I plan, God willing, to spend most of next Summer out fishing on the boat.

We recently sold two vehicles and one place we went to offered a lot better than I was expecting for each of those vehicles than the place we bought the RAM.

So we may well take a trip there this week.

A couple quick thoughts. While modifications never (generally) hold their value in reselling a car, you do (from your signature) have one modification that sets the car apart... the rear limited slip differential. Property described (e.g., pictures, details on the LSD) on the right platform (maybe bringatrailer.com?) you might see a LSD-driven value bump compared to other XJRs. I know once I get my repairs done the LSD is top on my list. The other thought is it's a rough time to sell a XJR right now -- not because of the pandemic (money is cheap, people are bored, so cars are getting sold) but seasonally it's one of the weaker times to sell. If you can wait until April/May you would (at least as indicated in the sales seasonality data on iseecars.com for the x350) be in a better position.

Good luck with the decision.

I hope your thread here will attract aficionados of such a nicely maintained/improved car.
Anyway, even if it's a pity, good luck for the sale!

Some good points.

I actually was thinking that the mods would make it more difficult to sell.

Why sell something you want to keep, or listen to anyone telling you need to sell something of yours ?????
Who wears the pants and pays the bills at your house, you or your wife W T F ?????????
Women, kids, & dogs, will quickly lose respect for any man they can push & boss around.
Just what are you doing without, by me keeping this car, would be a good question to ask her?

Of course if I sell to a Jag lover it will come with quite a few spare parts including the "spare" transmission.

I would much prefer it goes to a good home.

I have not obviously officially offered it for sale as yet. Just seriously considering it.

Jackra -
I was golfing with a friend just before the weather turned into true winter here in Ohio - I always drive the jag to golf - My friend texted me that on his way home he saw the following license plate ---

JAGWIFE

I had a good laugh.

So maybe she's just tired of you being under the hood so much. But to sell something you really enjoy and worked so diligently on is really difficult. Sell the Truck!!!! And haul the boat with the Jag -

I mean - You've got the extra tranny so no problem.

Impressive list of valuable upgrades!
And a careful maintenance.
IMHO a very good opportunity for a buyer in search of a wonderful XJR.
Wish you a good sale

Edit: when I see the price requested (in the classified), it is very conservative...

It is really interesting the way our cars are valued - Here we have an excellent car listed for $8,000, that anyone would and could drive trouble free for many years since the normal maintenance and beyond has been done.

We also have a 05 SV8 in Chicago with all normal maintenance done listed for about 14K.

Then an 04 XJ8 totally refurbished listed for $9,500. As far as I know, no interest.

Then we have a beauty 07 VDP in "red" with some normal maintenance and some upgrades listed for 23,900$.

Then further on the marketplace there's a 96 V12 XJ in Canada that sells for 10K.

Very few if any interest in the first three, then the "Red" gets shipped to Sweden after a one day listing. Like at near asking price.

All these car are nicer than my 05 super V8 in terms of upgrades and other maintenance.

But overall, it does seem as though prices are going up somewhat, in my general observation. However, there is also no real (regular) basis upon which cars are listed or sold.

I suppose that means they are truly worth only what a buyer is willing to pay.

A couple more things.

The transmission I used was a 2007 XKR unit not a 2006.

All oxygen sensors were replaced in mid 2017

I had to remove the yellow hood opener lever to clear the additional radiator. Still easy to open hood.

Modified release mechanism. No yellow lever.

Top of additional radiator can be seen.

Water/meth control module in Brake fuid "bin".

One thing I forgot is the XJR has adaptive cruise control as well as front and rear parking sensors.

All the bells and whistles.
